How much are you saving?
Hello All,
I am back talking about money again and how much of it are you saving by thinking “Green.” Last week I talked a little about green mortgages and how they can save you money, lower interest rate and lower utility bills in a green home. There are other ways going green can save you money. I know everyone has heard of parasitic power users (if not you are about to) and how they use power all the time they are plugged in. Think about all of the instant on appliance you have in your home and the battery chargers for things such as your cell phone. Do you unplug these devices when they are not in use? Sometime when you think there is nothing running in your home go outside and look at your electric meter is it recording electrical usage? Could be parasitic power users in your home.
What can you do? Unplug devices that have no need to be using energy such as battery chargers. You might even think of replacing them with a charger that runs off of photocells it can pay for itself in no time. Ask yourself if the next electronic device you buy really needs a digital clock read out…how many clocks do you have in your home now? That shredder does it need to be plugged in or does it work just fine to plug it in when you need it? Okay, remember the next time you need to replace a light bulb get the compact fluorescent bulbs and save a bundle. Just about any device that needs a transformer to run will have parasitic power usage when plugged in. Unplug theses devices if it makes sense to do so and save yourself some green. The money you save today may add up to the down payment on the dream home.
