Green Ramblings, This-N-That
I attended the Renewal Energy Fair in Fredericksburg this past weekend and saw a lot of familiar faces! I am always amazed that the people at these events are the ones who already have knowledge of renewable energy, sustainable building and living practices. I often wonder if the rest of the populace did not hear about the event or do they just not care? As always I did learn something new and I suppose that is why I see a lot of familiar face at these event people are there to supplement the knowledge they already have.
I am reminded of an online conversation with a fellow Realtor who commented on the fact I had “all this green stuff” on my website/blog. I told her consumers will be asking for more and more information on green building as time goes on and her reply was something along the lines “isn’t it automatic, builders will include green building techniques.” While that is correct in some sense, but what happens when it is a previously owned home? Who then is expected to explain the green benefits to the consumer? Who will help the consumer in finding the right professionals to tell if the home still meets the criteria for being green? The consumer will be looking for the Realtor who has knowledge of green building and energy efficient homes.
I had been thinking it is time to get back to cleaning out my garage so I could get my cars inside out of the sun. After listening to a presentation on “Green by Design and Not Device” I am not sure if I want the car in the garage anymore! The design of my house makes it very susceptible to pollution of the indoor air from volatile substances in the garage and a hot cat giving off gases could be a big contributor. There is a lot of science behind the statement I just made; for the sake of simplicity lets say that the warm moist air in the garage is drawn towards the cool dry air inside the home. Also remember the A/C unit is drawing air from all sources to its return air vent.
If you have any thoughts on any thing I have said let me know and lets talk about it!
